My Favorite Car Posted Saturday, September 4, 2021 11:11 AM Robert Hecking This was my favorite car. I bought it used from Bergen Buick. While cleaning it, I found an envelope addressed to William Mangles ( father of Classmate Gloria Mangles and former beau of my mother before she married my dad). I drove it 165,000 miles to work, night school, 9 week trip around America, to tow my friend John Hanna’s boat to Greenwood Lake, to Ken Kazimir’s cabin at Lake Hopatcong, to move a refrigerator in the back seat ( nothing too tall for a convertible!), with the roof down in snow flurries, and to Cape May where my sister lived. I sold the car to Dave Butler ( Cynthia’s brother). He agreed to pay$250, but seeing his love of the car, I told him to keep the money for tires or repairs. Four years later he graduated from Montclair State, he brought it back running well. I sold it to a body shop owner. |

RE: My Favorite Car Posted Saturday, September 4, 2021 11:19 AM Ken Kazimir Here is the 1965 Buick Skylark convertible, which is the car initially found by Bob Hecking at Bergen Buick. I still have this car and you can imagine the accumulation of memories when one has a vehicle for this long. I just have one more payment to make. Just kidding. Thank you Bob Hecking, for the car and the enduring friendship, both vintage and both so much appreciated. |
