Letti Perrine (Lopes)

Letti K. Lopes, 56, of 22 Chapel St., Cuba, N.Y., died Sunday, June 16, 2002, in her home after a courageous battle with cancer. 

She was born April 26, 1946, in Harrisburg, a daughter of Monica C. Wilson Perrine and the late Emerson M. Perrine. She was a graduate of the Rutherford, N.J., High School and the Rutherford School for Dental Technicians. Mrs. Lopes had been employed as a teacher's aide, served as a cheerleading adviser and an adviser for the Class of 1981, at the former Cuba Central School. She also had been the gift shop 

manager at the Cuba Memorial Hospital. She had lived in Cuba since 1971, formerly in Hyattsville, Md. 

Mrs. Lopes enjoyed her family, friends, children, music and liked animals. She will be remembered as a very caring person, always willing to lend a helping hand to others. She was a former member of the First Reformed Church of Christ in Youngwood, a member of the Cuba Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, past president and volunteer of the year. She also was a cast member and was involved with the Cuba Memorial Hospital Showtime Productions to benefit the hospital. 

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Donald W. Lopes, whom she married Nov. 22, 1964, in Rutherford, N.J.; a daughter, Deborah S. Lopes of Olean, N.Y.; a son, Douglas W. Lopes of Brockton, Mass.; three grandchildren, Victoria Lopes and Kassondra Lopes, both of Cuba, N.Y., and Ambria Hopkins of Olean, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McINTOSH FUNERAL HOME (Nicholson Chapel), 24 Genesee Parkway, Cuba, N.Y., where service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Stan Scoville, pastor of the Cuba United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Larry A. Poelma, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Cuba, co-officiating. Interment will follow in the Cuba Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Cuba Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, 140 W. Main St., Cuba, NY 14727, or to an S.P.C.A. organization.
