Tony Folio (Teacher-Coach)

Anthony “Tony” Folio, 75, who coached the Rutherford High School football team to State championships in 1964 and 1966, passed away on March 27, 1986.  He was cited in the Congressional Record for contributions to county and state athletics and was named to the Coaches Hall of Fame in 1983 by the New Jersey Interscholastic Coaches Association. He retired as Rutherford High’s athletic director in 1976 after 19 years with the school.  He coached his high school team in Clarksburg , WV to two 80 game winning streaks.

A parishioner of St. Mary’s R.C. Church.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Rutherford Lions Club and the Rutherford Chapter of UNICO.

Surviving are his wife, Flora Scarlatelli Folio; a son, Michel R. of Hollywood, FL; a daughter, Toni Lee Ponti of East Rutherford; two sisters, Rose Secreto and Eva Ferrise, both of Clarksburg, WV., and three grandchildren.
