Rosemarie Garossino McCauley of Convent Station, N.J., died on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Church, Convent Station, on Friday at 10 a.m. The interment is at Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, N.J. Hours of visitation are at the Madison Memorial Home, Madison, N.J., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Rosemarie Garossino McCauley was born April 10, 1935, in New Jersey. She graduated as the valedictorian from Memorial High School in West New York, N.J. She worked her way through college and graduated from Trenton State University with a B.S., Seton Hall University with a M.A. and Fairleigh Dickinson University with an Ed.D. She was a scholar and shared her passion for learning with everyone she met. Rosemarie was a consummate educator, and selflessly dedicated her life to family, friends, and the community. Rosemarie taught for 10 years at Rutherford High School in Rutherford, N.J., and then as a professor for 35 years at Montclair State University. She served as department chairman of the Business Education and Office Systems Administration Department for seven years. She took a lead role in her department's student advising and mentored hundreds of graduate students. Rosemarie also served as the business education graduate advisor for 12 years. She was granted professor emerita status from Montclair State University's Board of Trustees upon her retirement in 2002. Rosemarie has left a lasting impression on more than 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students whom she taught. Education was her life calling and she spent significant time outside of the classroom in an advisory capacity to many organizations. While at Montclair State University, she was faculty advisor of the Beta Sigma Chapter of Pi Omega Pi (The National Undergraduate Honor Society) for her entire tenure. She was also the faculty advisor to the Beta Phi Chapter of Delta Pi Epsilon, The National Professional Honorary Graduate Society in Business Education, for 18 years. In addition, Rosemarie was the president of the New Jersey Business Education Association from 1990 to 1991. During her illustrious career, she published five textbooks on office administration and information processing, as well as a reference work on personnel. She served as editor of The Business Education Index for 11 years and The National Association for Business Teacher Educators' Review for two years. She had also written numerous journal articles on business education. She was sought after as a speaker at local, state, regional, and national conferences. She had given more than 95 presentations and served as an evaluator for the Office Systems Program at Bloomsburg University, Bloomsburg, Pa. Rosemarie has been recognized with numerous awards. She was named the Collegiate Educator-of-the-Year by the National Business Education Association in 1989. She was named Senior College Educator of the Year by the Eastern Business Education Association in 1990. Rosemarie also received the Cooperative Education Faculty Award from Montclair State University in 1992. She was an active member of the community and a member of the Madison Rotary since 2006. She was named a member of the Rotary Board of Directors for two years. She was twice named to the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow Award, which is recognition for service above self. She served as the Literacy Chair of the Read Across America Program and The Dictionary Project. As a result of her efforts, the Madison Education Association gave the Rotary special recognition for this effort. Rosemarie also chaired the weekly speaker program. She was proud of her Hudson County heritage and always kept ties to the Weehawken community. She was a former president of the Benevolent Guild of Weehawken and a member for over 55 years. She helped to lead the Irish Night event for many years. She had a love for music. Frank Sinatra, The Duprees, and any live theatre were her passion. Over the past several years, she attended well over 100 Duprees concerts in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, and on cruise ships! Rosemarie loved family. She held the annual McCauley "Clan Bake" at her beach house and hosted many family and friends there for years. She was an active parishioner of St. Thomas More Church and participated in the weekly More Estate Rosary Group prayers. She was an extensive traveler. She sailed on over 30 cruises, and traveled Europe, Asia, South America, and Africa. Her most interesting adventures were to Egypt, China, and Gignanasco, Italy, the town where her father was born. She was always proud of her daughter's accomplishments. And in the past 11-and-a-half years, her true joy was her grandchildren. She was an integral part of her daughter's family. She cherished her Friday routine, ice cream outings, and rooting for the Yankees. Rosemarie could be seen cheering in the front row of every one of their sports games. She played Canasta, board games, and golf with them. Rosemarie always encouraged them to read, study, and strive for academic success. Rosemarie was predeceased by her husband, Robert F. McCauley. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Roseanne; son-in-law, Rich Williams; grandchildren, Richard and Robert, and nieces and nephews, Thomas Dennehy, Michael Dennehy, Kevin Dennehy, Rev. John Dennehy, Daniel Dennehy, Kathleen Ciolko and her husband, Walter, Patricia Banos, and her husband, Alex, Robert Gross, and Jean Santostephano, and her husband, Tom. She also has 12 great-nieces and nephews. In addition, she shared a special relationship with Louis and Joan Eckhardt, Lorraine Marin, and Albert and Lois Rossetti, all lifelong friends. Rosemarie was an exceptional role model who exemplified love for family, professionalism, a gift for educating, and a kind heart. Her family and friends are truly blessed to have known her.
