Lawrence J. Skvarla

Electronic engineer, train enthusiast and avid traveler Lawrence "Larry" J. Skvarla, 71, of Rutherford, N.J., passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2018. The funeral will take place from Costa Memorial Home, Boulevard and Central Ave., Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., on Friday, May 25, at 9:15 a.m. A Funeral Liturgy will be from the Church of St. Mary, Rutherford, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, N.J. Visitation is on Thursday, May 24, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Born in Passaic, N.J., to the late Lawrence B. and Phyllis H. Skvarla, Larry received his bachelor's degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Before retiring, he was an electronic engineer for Lucent Technologies in Whippany, N.J., and worked in the communication industry for 35 years. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was also an amateur radio operator, a train enthusiast, a stamp collector, an avid traveler, and a member of the Lighthouse Society. Larry was the beloved husband of Susan E. (nee Kidney) Skvarla, and brother-in-law of Paul and George Kidney. He is also survived by several cousins
