Wondering if a mini-reunion is in the works?  Seems like many classmates are interested...what's up Joe?

REUNIONISH - May I please have some suggestions as to a suitable location and evening?  Does Friday night work?  Is Saturday night better because it is easier for people to get there?  I know of a place in Glen Rock, where I happen to live, that has a private room and is open late.  All suggestions are welcome.

Interesting{?} Story - I was speaking with a title company representative, who mentioned that he lived in Lyndhurst (his misfortune).  I told him that I had grown up in Rutherford.  He replied that his inlaws lived in Rutherford and asked where I lived.  I responded "Montross Avenue."  He said his in-laws lived at 63 Montross.  I was stunned - that was the house that I grew up in!!!

Joe,

Your location suggestion is ok with me if you think it would be good.  But, for those of us who live far away (and those of us who might have a drink or two and don't want to drive home afterwards), are any hotels nearby (within walking distance, say 1/2 mile)?

Bert

Joe nice that you are considering organizing this mini reunion. Just a suggestion but there is a private room at Paisano's in Rutherford. Might be a more central venue.

Hi Joe,  Great idea for mini reunion.   When are you thinking of having it?

Joseph L. Nackson

Vicki - I await recommendations as to time

Bert - there are no hotels in Glen Rock, but there aome nearby in Paramus or Fair Lawn.  I could drive people to the hotel if necessary.

Mary Jo - whatever location is amenable to the people attending is fine with me.  While as a restaurant Paisano's is fine, in my experience they are not open much passed 9.  This does not leave much time for schmoozing.  We also had a really small (there were 4 of us) at a Lyndhurst restaurant, but they did not remain open very long either.  I don't want to make it inconvenient, but sufficient time also matters, especially for people coming from a distance.

Let me hear from more of you.  I would like to have robust crowd, especially while we are still ambulatory.

Another thought - should we try and set something up periodically - every three months for example, so that people who could not come to one dinner, might be able to attend the next one.  Any interest?

Any place you decide is fine with me. Joe; just finished my 30th and final year refereeing soccer.

Ron - that is quite a coincidence.  I just celebrated my 30th anniversary of noy officiating soccer.  After high school no one would allow me anywhere near a soccer field.

HaHa, Joe, you haven't changed.  About a hotel, we can always Uber, or if there are many out-of-towners we might all stay at the same hotel (like we did at some reunions) and hire a van to take us all and pick us up.

We'll need a place with a bar, they always stay open late in the evening. Since have no idea of what eateries remained open after the COVID closed some places. Park and Orchard was a place with good food and a bar....

Joe, I like your idea about every three months. We could then attract different people and experience  varied restaurants.

Thanks for organizing this occasion.  I liked the get together in Nutley and I think it was in the afternoon which was more convenient for me.  I also like Paisano's and Park Tavern.

Was there a Kindergarten and 1st grade in Sylvan school?  And did Washington school have a 3rd and 4th grades?

Joe, name a time and place for our get-together. White Castle is open late--but they don't have a bar!!!

Greg - Washington school ended at 3rd grade.  We then went to Union School for 4 to 6.

Everyone -

With regard to the limited responses below to my request for suggestions for a get together, the dilemma is clearly shown.  Each person wants something different.  That is hard to put together in a single package.  Paisano's is lovely, but they are not open late.  I no longer can recall where we went in Nutley.  I cannot go to a lunch meeting during football season (sorry, but immaturity does not fade in men), put that should not prevent others from scheduling a lunch.  My guess is that people will not travel for lunch, so that we are dealing with mostly those who are nearby, which may be OK.  I just want to have as many people as we can, while we still know who we are.

Can we do something reasonably soon?  Or is the proximity to Thanksgiving and then Christmas too disabling for something now?  If we schedule in the winter, are we too subject to the vagaries of weather?  What do you prefer

I have recommended the Glen Rock Inn, (concededly where I live) because they have food, liquor and remain open late.  Any other place that meets those criteria are also acceptable.  Please let me have your suggestions.

I propose to schedule an evening dinner and a lunch, but several months apart.  We can then alternate going forward depending on attendance, so that we can accommodate classmates' preferences in order to maximize attendance and our interactions.

Please let me hear from lots of you.

Fun fact - The State University's  womens' field hockey team just won the Big Ten Championship.  Women's soccer won the regular league championship and finished 2nd in the Big10 tournament.  Congratulations Ladies!  Go RU!

I'm just glad you've taken on the planning! Happy to join. I'm sure there are nearby places to stay overnight if need be. Thanks for doing this. Deb

Hi Joe,  Cally and I were just talking     I remembered the name of the fourth grade teacher   It is Miss Maywald   Cally says YES too :)    Now do you remember?

Joseph L. Nackson

You are all correct and I am wrong.  I just spoke with Seidler who confirmed that there was a Washington 4th grade.and that the stragglers who were left at Washington later went to Sylvan.  I now have to assume that the brighter children went to Union.  Can we confirm that?

11/10/21 11:27 AM #36

Vicki J Masters (Quinn)

We will not confirm that at all.   I speak for everyone :) we will discuss at your mini reunion ..please confirm when that is :)
