Congratulations to Mason Carter - recognition coming late is better than no recognition at all!  On one of my Rutgers Boards, it was just announced that Mason Carter was offered a football scholarship by Rurgers!  Congratulations, but at our age, please take it easy, at least initially.

Really  sad news about Jim McLaughlin and Bill Lanzer. Two good guys .Certainly gives one pause...

Jim and I began school in Kindergarten and he lived around the corner from me. Always appreciated his quiet sense of humor. The last time I saw Bill was serindipitous. He was attending a large orthopaedic conference in Anaheim, CA. I was attending UCLA at the time and tagged along with a good friend from CO and her orthopod husband. Walking through the hotel lobby, I saw Bill sitting in a chair, reading..Even after so many years, he was easy to recognize. We chatted for quite a while, catching up on whatever tidbits from Rutherford each of us could share. Ironically, Bruce Psaty, and old friend of my sister's was also an MD at U. Washington so we laughed about Rutherford being well represented there.

Jim and I played soccer together and owned VWs. After we graduated I ran into him on Park Ave and its was like a minute since we started out on our new lives. Easy going with a good sence of humor, I hope his life was filled good times and people who loved him.

Bill Lanzer had a childhood dream.....

to hit more home runs, than Babe Ruth...

Bill lived at 60 Maple Street....

I remember Bill Lanzar from RHS track - we were both champion 100 yd sprinters - - - naah.  We were shot put-ers.  He was very big and strong, and usually outdid me.  But we both managed to get senior letters for our efforts.  We had a good, very friendly relationship.  Easy going, supportive of one-another.  I am sorry to know he is no longer with us; but hopefully in an even better place.

Grace Ann Fillucco

Hey, Greg,

Is there a list of those of us who are planning to attend the reunion next year?
I am really looking forward to it even though I'll have to bring along my wrinkles and white hair!

Grace Ann, I sure do have a list and I will publish it in the next Newsletter....and your wrinkles and white hair look fabulous!!  Now on the other hand...my wrinkles have wrinkles and NO hair....hahahahahaha

Greg, you don't understand "no hair" (I know the concept).  Grace, you don't understand "wrinkles and gray hair" (The wrinkles aren't there.  I don't know about gray hair though; my motto, for guys at least, is better gray than gone).  You are both blessed in those ways.

Count me in for the reunion, I will be sending in my money this week.

Good one, Bert!!  But that picture is probably 10 or 12 years old....I will post a new one shortly, I went back to a buzz cut, like in school, because really got upset getting a $25.00 haircut every three or four weeks, when I can cut what little is left....hahahahaha

Can't wait to see who's going to reunion.

Took grandkids to Rutts and Applegate Farms  it was great! They loved it. My daughter did too. So it was two new generations who'll carry on the tradition!
Added some pics to my gallery

when Bill Lanzer played Baseball at RHS, the school could not get spikes which fit him, so they put spikes on his loafers.

Has anyone else noticed that no one is willing to admit that they were on the soccer team with me?  Someone has to be the tailgunner.

Undoubtedly, RHS inspired many to their future careers.

During our Senior year I was accused of giving Ms. Sharp (English), the "finger" in class.  I had a "hearing" before Hugo Janeba.  when I denied doing it, he said "I wouldn't admit it if I did it either."  Violated all of my due process rights.  The punishmentwas that I received  was that I was suspended from the soccer team for a week.  The coach and my teammates asked if that could be changed to two weeks.  That probably helped lead me to a career in law, where I could help people facing larger injustices.

Can't wait to see everyone at the Reunion.

Joe you were a good soccer player. You had heart and interest in the game. I am so sorry that you were treated unfairly by the RHS gestapo. I don't remember any notice of your suspension. You weren't the middle finger kinda of guy.....you had brains. That's something I would if I was pissed enough.

Joe,I remember those floppy shin guards and the floppy socks to hold them. You were always at practice putting forth your best effort. Your finger was used as a pointer and not a nasty gesture. We even had cheerleaders at some of our games. Great to reminisce.

I was not fishing for a compliment.  Nice to see none-the-less.   It is also nice to know that 60 years later some of my teammates can still remember that I was on the team!  Soccer and baseball were the only sports at RHS that were fully competitive during our years there.  We were a small school in a Large school league (the NNJIL- Ridgewood, Englewood, Teaneck, etc.) Now in NJ, the schools are more evenly matched.  Rutherford is now very strong.  I do not believe that anyone on the soccer team played before they went out for the team freshman year.  Now, all over NJ, kids start playing at 5.  The better players are on a "traveling" team by age 7.

Joe, you were always a good guy not giving you props for playing but the unfair treatment. I just don't see you giving the finger to a teacher. You are right, today's kids are better trained but some of the parents are completely nuts. My grandson travels for baseball and at the games there are lots of parents thinking their child is Mickey Mantle (most don't know that name, showing my age).

I think Ron can confirm, since he was a soccer official, at rec soccer the teams and parents are on the opposite side of the pitch (field for non-soccer fans) because they behave so badly.  I coached several of my daughter's softball teams.  I learbed that experienced coaches lowered the ratings for their kids and raised the level of other coache's kids.  So that when the "draft" was conducted, my team would have no "A" players, since my A was really a B and they had multiple As some disguised as Bs.  The lack of concern for the experience the kids had was appalling, especially when you consider most kids stop at rec and will not play in high school.  I was involved once in a game where the fisrt base person was literally standing on the base, rather than having her one leg touch the base.  The other coach instructed the players to run into this untutured player, rather than explaining what she should do.  Just appalling

So true Joe. I've had experiences when players on the field of play have yelled to their parents to sit down and be quiet. Embarrassing for the player and parent. Good athletic directors control crowds before these situations occur. Opposite sides for teams and spectators is always a must.
